There are a few places dedicated to cleaning up and selling Grand Wagoneers. Pretty sure my net worth doesn’t exceed any one of the vehicles available, sadly.

“Does his builds right.”

Puts LS3 in Jeep instead of building the AMC GenIII.

Class III bolt-in hitch and a lift.

Relocated seat mounts instead of changing brackets.

Just threw a 2016 GM column shifter at it and called it done.

“Kicker subwoofer on a potentiometer.”

“The seller notes that the power windows operate slowly.”

Center console looks like it was ordered from J.C. Whitney.

Drop-in LEDs from China for the interior lighting.

Re-wrapped the steering wheel poorly.

Didn’t redo the worn door card vinyl.

... yeah. I think our definitions of ‘right’ here differ more than slightly.

Eh, go look at the actual experiences and what they actually deliver according to customers. Horrorshow does not begin to cover it. And their prices are nothing short of criminal.

$80,000 for an acceptably restored ‘91 that’s chock full of non-factory parts with 115k miles on it. Really? Really ?

I could never figure out how they were charging $60k+  regardless of the quality. That’s one hell of a price for a status symbol.

Things I've seen him do in the past were well done. I'm not familiar with Jeep things and frankly don't care enough about them (at all) to know about this one in particular or half of the things you mentioned. And some of them might be taste items that are easily changed if the buyer doesn't like them.

Oh, I’m sure his work is largely mechanically sound (except for maybe his electrical, but to be fully fair to him, the power window system in these is such a fucking shitshow .) It’s just... it’s just not a very good Jeep build.

Yeah, and anybody who actually knows what they’re looking at is not going to pay $80k. Yes, it is very easy to spend $80k restoring a $2500 Jeep. But they aren’t spending the money. They just aren’t.

They’re selling to suckers who are buying it for, as you said, the status symbol. And fools who think that the market on these can only go up.

I think he’s newish to jeeps. He got some talented electrical guys working for him, or used to at least. It’s been 7-8 years since I’ve talked to him.

Are slow windows due to electrical on these? On most cars I’m familiar with it’s mechanical binding of some sort, be it regulators or warped tracks or whatever.

That’s definitely a fair thing. And oh my god so much yes. The SJ electrical system is straight out of the “what can we design on a budget of $5 and this paperclip” book.

Here is a link to the ‘89 FSM Electrical for the windows. GAZE AND DESPAIR.

Slow movement on multiple windows on an ‘89, it’s not getting correct power. Sometimes it’s the master switch assembly (because they’re all wired through it for power.) So this also means if the master switch ground is acting up, you get slow windows too.

But because it’s all wired together and ganged up everywhere? A fault in anything breaks EVERYTHING ! Generally though, with slow windows, you’re looking for a voltage drop. Where? ANYWHERE! If they aren’t screaming when rolled up (bad window seal,) it’s electrical. And corrosion in the power window system power paths? Endemic.

At least it’s not the XJ window regulators. How any  XJ keeps the windows in the frame is a mystery to modern science.
